Land Lab
Land Lab – Agriculture, Environment and Landscape is a research laboratory of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna of Pisa. Land Lab carries out multidisciplinary studies on the relationships between agriculture, environment and biodiversity protection, and rural territory management. Research is being carried out by making use of innovative methodologies and analytical tools.
Land Lab focus is on research, consulting and higher education activities in the following domains:
- the design, development and optimisation of low external input and organic cropping systems;
- the analysis of agriculture-environment relationships at farm and landscape scale;
- the development and application of innovative methodologies for studies on landscape issues and biodiversity in agroecosystems;
- non food uses of crop and forestry species;
- the valuation and control of food quality.
Results of Land Lab research and studies are used to support local government and territorial agencies for:
- agricultural land use planning and definition of priorities of intervention;
- evolution of norms and of the agri-environmental legislation at local, regional, national and European scale.
Land Lab projects are implemented through numerous network-based collaborations with national and international Universities, research centres, local government bodies, private enterprises, and various stakeholders.
In particular, Land Lab participates in planning and realisation of long-term research and monitoring activities carried out at the Interdepartmental Centre for Agri-environmental Research “Enrico Avanzi” (CIRAA) of the University of Pisa and at the Regional Natural Park of Migliarino-San Rossore-Massaciuccoli.
